Happy Halloween! Since I love watching scary movies, I thought I’d share some of my favourite ones with you.

My all time favourite scary movie is The Haunting, from 1963. Yes, there’s a remake from the 90’s, but it’s horrible, so don’t watch it. The original is terrifying. It’s based on a book called The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Anyone who’s read her short story, The Lottery, knows what an amazing storyteller she is. Though there’s no blood in this movie, it’s absolutely terrifying cause it’s gets in your head. It makes you imagine what’s scary for you, instead of showing you something scary. It’s the creepiest movie I’ve ever seen, hands down.

It’s not Halloween until you’ve watched Halloween! The original Halloween from 1978 is one of the best slasher movies ever. The first and second ones in this series are basically the same story, just in two movies. If you’re going to watch the first one, you might as well watch the second to find out what happens to Laurie (a very young Jamie Lee Curtis). There’s been lots of movies in this franchise, some amazingly bad, but pretty funny to watch. Case in point, Halloween: Resurrection from 2002 has Tyra Banks and Busta Rhymes in it.

The Fog (once again the original, cause the remake stinks) is another one of my favourites. It’s a creepy story about something as innocuous as the fog. You’ll never see fog outside your window the same after watching this. Jamie Lee Curtis has a small part in this movie – I think she’s great in scary movies!

The Carrie from 1976 has Sissy Spacek and John Travolta in it. How can you go wrong with that? This movie has possibly the most craziest, creepiest mother in it. The book by Stephen King is also pretty good. My mom said that the first time she watched it the very end creeped her out. If you’ve seen it, you know what I mean,

Family is murdered in house. New family moves in. Creepiness happens. This movie is your typical haunted house movie, complete with flies, slamming doors, and blood dripping down the walls. It doesn’t get much better than that.

The first time I watched this movie, it was with a friend who also liked scary movies, While we were getting ready to watch it, she said she’d only watch it with the lights on cause it was so scary. I knew if the lights had to be on, it was going to be good. While I don’t think it’s as scary as my friend thought it was, it’s definitely a very creepy movie.

Mia Farrow was the perfect choice to play Rosemary in my opinion. The apartment building full of creepy people is the perfect backdrop, and makes you understand why Rosemary could get so paranoid.

If you need a horror movie with a crazed serial killer, you have another option besides Michael Myers – Jason Voorhies. It’s a good thing i never saw any of the Friday the 13th movies when I was a kid and went to camp. If you needed another reason to watch this one, Kevin Bacon is in it!

So those are my favourite horror movies. What are some of yours?
