I meant to publish this post on Wednesday, but apparently I didn’t, and I was too busy celebrating to realize it. So here it is, a couple days late. Enjoy!

Birthday November 14 2012

I turn 30 today. I’ve been around for 3 decades. That’s kind of terrifying in so many ways. I never really thought I’d make it to adulthood, and it seems that I’ve arrived. Weird.

The last year has been pretty crazy.

A year ago, November 2011 I started dating my ex. He was the first guy I actually let in to know the real me. It was definitely terrifying at first, but totally worth it. I still think he’s a pretty awesome guy. He’s going to make someone very happy, and she’ll be very lucky to have him.

Yoga Mat Birthday November 14 2012

In January I took my very first yoga class. I was absolutely terrified, but I did it anyways, and ended up really liking it.

In March a family member got really sick, very fast. Almost dying sick, and we found out they had cancer. The month that they were in the hospital was crazy stressful, but at the same time, when they were allowed to come back home, it was such a relief. It makes you appreciate every day that you have with the people that you love.

Soccer Cropped Tourney June 2012

In April I started playing soccer. It was the first time I’d ever played. I was absolutely terrified, but in the end, I’m so glad I started. I had so much fun, and met some really amazing people.

In July I started dating my boyfriend. He’s kind of awesome if I do say so myself. We’ve only been together for four months, but at the same time it feels like we’ve spent so much time together already. I’m pretty glad I met him.

Stuff 009

In July we had to put down our dog, Bailey. I know I’ve mentioned him on the blog a couple times, and seriously, we loved him like crazy, even if he did cause trouble once in awhile a lot. The whole family was able to say goodbye – I was able to leave work early and my brother went into work late. It was so hard. Really hard, but we were able to spend an amazing 15 years with him that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Blind Bay Vacation August 2012 (1)

I went on vacation in August for the first time in years. I spent mornings on the dock by myself, and the rest of the days with some of my favourite people. Possibly the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever been on.

It’s been a pretty crazy year. There’s been some fun stuff and some losses, successes and failures. I guess you never know what’s going to happen.

Yesterday my dad had mentioned going to Canmore to test out his new camera. I love spending time in the mountains, so I said I’d go with him if decided to go. This morning he said he wanted to, so off we went. The drive from Calgary to Canmore is so beautiful with the mountains in front of you. Today was a pretty clear day so they were really crisp and clear.

It was my first time in the mountains in about 6 months. I know, it sounds like a long time, but it feels like even longer. I was in Lake Louise the last time. We hiked here and here. While there wasn’t any hiking involved today (there’s still lots and lots of snow everywhere), we did walk up and down each side of main street.

We ended up at a store we discovered last time we were in Canmore the Mut Hut Pet Emporium. They have all kinds of things for dogs. Last time we got jerky and cookies which Bailey loved, so we knew we’d have to get a few more goodies today. We ended up with duck jerky, bone shaped cookies (with icing!), and a cannoli filled with what smelled like some sort of peanut butter filling.

It was nice to get out of the city, even though it was only for a couple hours. It’s amazing how much more relaxed I am once I’ve spent even a little time in the mountains. We gave Bailey the cannoli when we got home. He ate it so fast pieces went flying everywhere. I’d say it was a success.

I was looking through some photos of Bowmont in the fall and thought I’d share some.

Bowmont is probably one of my favorite places in the city. It’s so pretty at any time of the year. I’m missing it a lot. While I still go for walks there in the winter, it’s only on warmer days. Because it follows the river it gets pretty windy (cold), so unless you’re covered up with mitts, a scarf, and a hat, you freeze. Literally.

You can’t go wrong with a view of the river.

I wan’t wait for warmer days when I’ll be able to spend more time there. Not just more walks, but longer ones too.

I thought I should put a warning at the beginning of this post that there will be talk of dog poop. So if you’re squeamish, don’t read any further.

This is Bailey. 99% of the time he’s an amazing although sometimes grumpy (he is 14 years old after all) little guy.

I take him to Bowmont for walks once or twice a week. I’ve never had a problem having him in the car for the drive there. In fact I’ve never had a problem with him in the car period, no matter where we were going. But I guess there’s a first time for everything.

This week I laid down the blanket in the back seat and put Bailey back there, and started the 5 minute drive to Bowmont. About half way there he started crying. I had no idea why. A minute or two later when we were there, I got out of the car, opened the back door to get Bailey out, when I saw what he was crying about.

He had pooped in the back seat.

I probably should have been a little mad, but instead I smiled cause I thought it was funny. Apparently he couldn’t wait for Bowmont, but once he had pooped, he didn’t realize he’d have to spend the next couple minutes with it. He wasn’t happy about that, so that’s when he started crying.

It’s a good thing I always put the blanket down whenever I have him in the car, so it didn’t actually touch the seat. So I grabbed a bag and picked it up.

We had our walk as usual (he didn’t poop during the walk, of course), and luckily the drive home was uneventful.

This is my dog, Bailey. He’s a Cocker Spaniel. Why am I sharing dark pictures of him? Cause he’s so cute of course!

10 minutes before this picture was taken he came upstairs and wandered into my room. Usually he comes in, sniffs a bit to make sure there’s nothing amazingly delicious in here, and heads on his way. But tonight he came right over to the bed (where I was sitting), and put his front paws on the bed and gave me a sad look that said ” Wanna help a dog out?” I figured he wanted to come up, so I picked him up and put him on the bed with me. He used to be able to jump up all by himself, but he’s 14 now, so he understandably needed some help.

Next thing I knew, he was curled up, looking very comfy, and snoring away. It was so incredibly cute! I wanted to get a picture of him (not that a picture would convey his snoring, but still), so I tried to grab my camera as carefully as possible, but I obviously woke him up. So instead you get sleepy photos of him.

The plan for tomorrow is to do run/walk intervals again, the exact same thing as yesterday. Honestly, the hardest part will be getting up when my alarm goes off. Once I’m up things are easy, it’s just getting myself out of bed that’s so hard. Somestimes it’s jsut so hard to get out of my nice warm bed. My alarm is only set for 6 am though, so it’s not like it’s incredibly early. I don’t have any excuses!

Have any suggestions on how to make getting up in the morning easier?
