1. It’s a long weekend! This last week seemed so long and like it was never going to end. I kept thinking that Wednesday was actually Thursday. I hate when that happens. Needless to say, I definitely enjoyed sleeping in a bit this morning.

2. Yesterday my mom gave me money to buy Easter candy for the family. Yep, my brother and I are definitely adults, but we still get Easter candy. Tell me I’m not the only full grown child who still gets Easter candy from their parents.

3. Speaking of Easter candy, there wasn’t much selection when I went to the grocery store to get it. Apparently you have to get there earlier to get the good stuff. There weren’t even any jelly beans left. Jelly beans will always be Easter candy to me.

4. It’s finally starting to feel like spring. I can go for walks without having a million layers on or avoiding icy sections of sidewalks. I’m definitely enjoying it. There’s even birds singing!

5. Tonight I’m going over to a friend’s place for homemade pizza. When I asked what I could bring, she said nothing, but I told her I’d bring some beer. Cause really, nothing goes better with pizza than beer.

6. That’s all I’ve got for today. Enjoy your long weekend!

My brother loves Eatmore Bars. When he found a recipe to make them at home, he asked me to make them. I’m a wonderful sister, so I did and I thought I’d share them with you.

Let chill in fridge and then cut into squares.

They’re pretty easy to make. I’ve never tried an Eatmore Bar before, but my brother said these taste just like the original. I tried a piece of the ones I made, and I have to admit that they were pretty good.

What’s your favourite candy bar?

White Chocolate Smartie Brittle

1. My brother brought me back white chocolate Smartie bark from Banff. Does a more delicious thing exist on earth? It’s now gone. Every bite was amazing.

2. My workouts the last two days have been shovelling the driveway. We got a pretty good dump of snow, and I’m hoping it’s over now. I’m definitely feeling it in my arms.

3. I’ve stayed up late the last two nights, and I’m definitely feeling it today. Lack of sleep didn’t use to effect me like this. I feel old.

4. Last night I saw This Is 40 with a friend (the reason why I was up late last night). It’s so funny. If you’re thinking of seeing it, go! After the movie we went to get a beer. I got blueberry beer. It was pretty good.

Pride and Prejudice DVD January 11 2013

5. I got Pride and Prejudice from a friend for Christmas! I haven’t watched it yet, so I’m planning in spending my Friday night with Mr Darcy.

6. It’s short and sweet today. Enjoy your weekend!

Woohoo! Here’s what I have going on this weekend:

1. Pride and Prejudice on Saturday night. I’m super excited about this. It’s one of my favourite books, can I can’t wait to see it in theatre form. I follow Theatre Calgary on Twitter, and they’ve been tweeting sneak peaks about the performance. Every time i read one I get a little more excited.

2. The weather isn’t going to be very nice this weekend. The forecast is for rain, snow, and cold temperatures. Summer is definitely long gone. I might already miss the sun and warmth a little bit.

3. It’s amazing how fast the leaves are changing outside. We had a bunch of wind the other day, and it blew most of the leaves off the tree right outside my bedroom window. It looks so sad now. I need to get outside more and enjoy the changing seasons. Before I know it, it’ll be winter already.

4. I’ve been craving candy corn like crazy for the last couple weeks. I finally broke down and bought some this week. I haven’t had any in a couple years, and it’s honestly not as good as I remembered it to be. Kind of a disappointment, but it still hits the spot when my sweet tooth acts up.

5. I bought a lock for my bike a couple days ago. There’s been a couple times when I’ve wished I’d have had one. Now I do and I can ride my bike, then leave it to walk the rest of the way. It’ll come in particularly useful in Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park where there are a few spots that you’re not allowed to ride your bike.

6. I recently got photos printed from over the summer. Everything from soccer to vacation. I’m pretty happy now that I have them all labelled and in an album. I feel so organized

The State of Africa and Sense and Sensibility October 17 2012

7. I’m reading two really good books right now. I haven’t had much time to read this week, but I really want to put in a couple hours this weekend. The books are Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen and The State of Africa by Martin Meredith in case you were wondering.

8. That’s all I have. Enjoy your weekend!

Candy Servings

I have a sweet tooth. A big sweet tooth. I don’t know what it is, but I need something sweet every day once in awhile. My usual suspects are Twizzlers, Nibs, Smarties, and Reese’s Pieces.

Whenever I end up buying some candy though, I find it really hard to not eat the whole bag. Yeah, I might be crazy, but once I start I can’t stop.

Candy Servings (1)

So I decided to try putting a “serving” in a bag of it’s own, hoping that it would help. And you know what? It totally did.

Once they’re in the bags it’s really easy to grab one and not have to worry about eating too much. I know exactly how much fat and calories are in each bag.

Usually it’s the sweetness that I’m craving, and I can get that from a quarter of the bag instead of the whole bag. I don’t feel nearly as guilty eating these as I could the whole bag.

Does anyone else divide up their snacks or sweets like this too?

Girly Stuff July 25 2012

Who knew girly stuff was so expensive. I was out or almost out of a bunch of stuff so I ended up heading to Wal Mart to get replacements.

I usually hate shopping there, but they have most things cheaper than anywhere else. I figure I can put up with annoying customers and employees that have no idea what they’re doing to save some money. I went voluntarily, so I guess I shouldn’t be complaining to begin with.

Anyways, I by the time I got all the things I needed and the cashier told me how much the total came to, I was kind of shocked. It was all essentials (yes, shampoo and conditioner are essentials as I have collar bone length hair – I would be pretty disgusting if I didn’t use them), but it’s still surprising how expensive all that stuff is.

Besides shampoo and conditioner I got mousse (to attempt to give my lifeless fine hair some volume), hairspray, toner, shave gel, contact solution, and sunscreen (I work outside for a living, so I go through at least a couple tubes of it each summer).

I may have also gotten some candy, which although it wasn’t something that was on my list, I still felt I needed when I walked past it. I’m pretty sure that’s how Wal Mart is able to have such low prices – it’s those darn impulse buys!

I’ve finally figured out what I’m giving up for Lent. Sweets. Everything from candy to cookies. I might have a slight obsession with Twizzlers. They’re really the only candy I eat, but I eat a lot of them. Like once a week. It’s crazy. My body does NOT need that much sugar. Not to mention the money that I could save if I didn’t buy them. $3 a week is $150 a year. That’s a lot of money I could be using for something else.

I have a huge sweet tooth, so this is definitely going to be hard. But I can do it. I know I can. 40 days isn’t forever. I think the first week or two is going to be the hardest.

Who knows, maybe once I make it to Easter sugar won’t be such a huge thing for me.

This is the candy that I still have hanging around from Christmas. It’s kind of ridiculous. I should really get rid of it and give it to someone (or several people, it’s a lot of candy after all) before it eventually ends up in my stomach.

I have to admit though that I have a soft spot for Lindt’s. They’re my absolute favorite, hence the two bags of it. To be honest there was a third, but that got eaten. It was Christmas, what can I say? It’s a good thing I only get them at Christmas or else I’d probably weigh 50 lbs more.

One of my favorite stores in Switzerland when I was there was the Lindt store. I’m not even joking. It smelled so good opening the door and stepping in.
