Friday ended up being pretty low key – I didn’t do much other than laundry.

Banana Bread February 23 2013 (8)

Saturday afternoon I made some banana bread for the boyfriend as part of his Christmas gift. I HATE bananas – the smell, the taste, and the texture, it’s just all so gross, so he’s pretty lucky I made it for him.

Saturday night I headed out to go bowling with some friends that I hadn’t seen in awhile. The first game I only scored 88 points, but the second I managed to get 100. I was pretty excited, as I’m a pretty horrible bowler.

Roll Up the Rim to Win February 23 2013

After we decided to go to Tim Horton’s. I got my usual hot chocolate. I even managed to win a coffee with my Roll Up the Rim cup. It was great to be able to hang out and talk with some friends that I haven’t seen in over a year.

While we were talking somehow the subject of Snoop Dogg came up. One of my friends said he’d changed his name from to Snoop Lion. No one else had heard about that, so we were pretty sceptical until someone got out their phone and confirmed it. Snoop Lion also thinks he’s the reincarnation of Bob Marley according to my friend. Apparently I’m not current on the latest hip hop gossip.

Sunday afternoon I spent with the boyfriend. After doing some errands we got lunch at a great sushi place near his house. I got some California rolls and my usual veggie roll. I’ll have to remember to take a picture of it next time cause the veggie roll is always so pretty with avocado and strawberry on top of it.

Pocky February 25 2013

They give out Pocky, and I always pick strawberry. Every. Single. Time. Has anyone tried the chocolate? Which do you like better?

1. It’s Friday! For some reason this week seemed really long. I have no idea why.

2. I have a very social couple of days coming up. I don’t know how it happened, but usually I’m not a social butterfly. Weird.

3. Last night I saw Identity Thief with some friends. It’s sooooo funny. I’d definitely recommend it if you liked Bridesmaids or Horrible Bosses. I haven’t laughed that much in a long time.

4. After the movie we went for dinner and drinks. I had the most delicious Thai chicken salad ever. Yum.

Calgary Z00 February 2013 (62)

5. Yesterday I went to the zoo. I saw penguins, tigers, elephants, lions, and giraffes. I managed to get a few amazing photos.

6. My hip has decided to get really tight this week. I’m not impressed. I thought doing yoga this morning would stretch it out a bit. I think it helped.

7. I’m going bowling tomorrow night. I last time i went bowling I did horribly. I don’t think my score even broke three digits. Here’s hoping I’ll do better tomorrow.

8. Enjoy your weekend!

Shouldice Park February 3 2013 (3)

1. The weather has been beautiful lately. However, the chinook headaches haven’t been so much fun. There has to be some sort of middle ground between half decent weather and no headaches.

2. I got to hang out with a friend yesterday. She’s working now, so while we don’t get to hang out as much, we definitely make the best of the time that we do have together.

3. I made granola this week. It’s felt like forever since I last made it. I forgot how good it is compared to the store bought stuff.

4. I’m finally reading the last book in the Little Women series. I’ve been putting it off cause I don’t want it to be over.

5. The last of the seeds that I ordered online arrived yesterday. I can’t wait until it’s time to start them inside.

6. Last week the boyfriend and I talked about going to Chinatown for a date. Since Sunday is the Chinese New Year, we’ve decided that’s the day we’re going to do it.

Christmas Cards December 21 2012

1. I may or may not have sent my Christmas cards out until this morning. I know they won’t get to their destinations in time, but I think they’ll get there by New Years. Better late than never, right?

2. I’m in a book rut. I finished an amazing book this week, and even though the book I’m reading right now is good, it’s not awesome like the last one was. Boo.

3. I’m going over to a friend’s place for tea this afternoon. I get to hang out with her AND her kids. They make me smile, so you can’t go wrong with that.

4. While the kids are around though, it makes it hard to have “adult” conversations. Her three year old is so smart. It’s amazing how much she picks up when you don’t think she’s listening.

5. We’re supposed to be getting more snow this weekend. I’ll forgive the weatherman because that means we’ll have some fresh white snow for Christmas, and not the grey dirty stuff that’s been around for awhile.

6. Stressing about things and not sleeping well isn’t fun. At all. Hopefully tonight I’ll be able to relax and sleep better. Too bad there isn’t a switch to turn off my brain when I go to bed.

7. I’m pretty sure my socks are disappearing. I’m not sure where they’re going, but I think they got mixed into someone else’s laundry, and they haven’t realized it yet. I hope they turn up soon.

8. Have a great weekend!

America's Test Kitchen Healthy Family Cookbook

I made another zucchini bread yesterday from some of the zucchinis I picked earlier in the week. It was cold, snowy, and dreary here, so it was the perfect day to stay inside and bake. I once again used the recipe from my ATK’s Healthy Family Cookbook, and it turned out perfectly.

2012-10-03 14.34.18

It took a little longer than the recipe said to get it cooked all the way through, but the extra time was definitely worth it. It came out golden brown and it tasted so good!

Last night after dinner I went for a walk with a friend. We had her kids and dogs along with us. Even though we end up going a little slower, I love hanging out with the kids – they’re awesome. We did an hour long 2 mile (3.2 km) loop around her neighbourhood. By the time we got back to her place it was getting cold and dark. We’ll definitely have to start out earlier next time.

What’s the last thing you baked? Is it getting colder where you are?

Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park September 28 2012 (12)

1. I didn’t have to go into work today, so my dad and I went on a bike ride this morning. It was my first time going to the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. It was beautiful!

2. There’s snow in the forecast for next week. I’m not impressed in the least.

3. I was carrying entirely too much change around in my wallet. I decided to put it in rolls this afternoon, so I found out exactly how much is too much. No wonder my bag weighed a ton.

4. I’m going for a walk with a friend tomorrow morning. I can’t wait to have some time to hang out. There’s a secret that I have to keep from her for the next couple weeks though (it’s a good secret, don’t worry), but I’m scared it’s going to slip out before I have a chance to stop myself. I’m so bad at lying.

Cranberry Orange Scone September 28 2012

5. I’ve eaten two cranberry orange scones the last few days that my dad bought at the farmer’s market. They’re beyond delicious. I’m surprised I haven’t eaten every single one.

6. I haven’t baked anything in a week or two. I need to make sure I make something tasty this weekend.

7. I’ve bought some really good books lately that I really really really want to start, but I’m already in the middle of two (good) books. I need to read faster.

8. It’s date night tonight!

9. Enjoy your weekend.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s amazed when the weekend is suddenly over. Seriously, where did it go?

Weekend in Review (1)

I had bought a Groupon earlier in the week for Far Burger. My dad loves that place, so we went together on Friday for lunch. I’d never been there before so it was a new experience for me.

Weekend in Review (2)

I decided on a veggie burger (my first veggie burger ever!), which I really liked. I’d get it again in a heartbeat. It was pretty big though. I only ate a 1/3 of my fries – it was just too much food.

Weekend in Review (3)

After lunch I ended up doing a little shopping. On the way to the store I wanted to go in we walked past a sports store. They had these big metal things outside on the sidewalk. I had to have my picture taken as a goalie. It’s probably the closest I’ll ever get to playing.

Friday night I went to a barbeque at my boyfriend’s friend’s place. There were hamburgers, beer, and roasted marshmallows. Does it get any better than that?

Saturday morning  I went for a walk with a friend. We ended up going 5k in a little over an hour, which is pretty good considering we had two dogs and a little one in a stroller.

Saturday afternoon I spent looking for a bike. I’ve narrowed it down to 2 or 3, and hopefully I’ll buy one this week. I’m pretty excited about getting a new bike.

Saturday night was a girl’s night. We went to go see Paranorman (I really liked it), and then went for drinks afterwards. The pub was right by the movie theatre. We got an amazing platter with wings, seafood, and potstickers. So tasty! By the time we left I think it was later than we all thought it would be. Apparently we’re pretty good at talking.

Pocky September 17 2012

Sunday for lunch I went to a sushi restaurant with the boyfriend. While I’ve had sushi before, this was my first time eating at an actual sushi restaurant. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous about it, but he assured me there were lots of options if I didn’t want fish.

I ended up really liking it for the most part. The California rolls were amazing, along with a veggie roll I got. I tried the boyfriend’s spicy tuna rolls, but wasn’t a huge fan of it. The gyoza’s were great too. All in all I’d definitely go back. They brought us a box of Pocky at the end of the meal, which I have yet to try. They look pretty tasty and full of sugar, so I’m sure I’ll like them.

After all that food at lunch, I played floor hockey Sunday afternoon. Somehow I managed to avoid throwing up, which was good. I put in 110%, and almost had one or two goals. It was lots of fun,

Unfortunately I was pretty exhausted when I got home, even though I had a yoga class Sunday night, I definitely shouldn’t have played as hard or as long at hockey, cause the yoga class was really tough.

So that was my weekend. What did you do?

1. Work seemed extra long and hard this week. I’m very glad the weekend is here.

2. I’m going to a barbecue tonight. It should be fun.

3. Saturday I’m going to a girl’s night with a couple friends. We’re going to see a movie (possibly Paranorman, which I’m kind of excited about), and then going for drinks afterwards. It should also be fun.

4. I’m playing floor hockey again on Sunday. I don’t know what it is, but I get so excited when I know it’s just a day or two away. It must be the same thing that made playing floor hockey in phys ed one of the best classes all year. Apparently I don’t change.

5. Soccer is officially over. I’m amazingly sad about that. What am I going to do with my Tuesday nights now?

6. I made cinnamon buns this week. Quite possibly one of the best smelling things I’ve ever baked.

7. It’s cold in the mornings when I leave for work now. This week we had a frost warning. I’m not ready for cold weather yet. Brrr.

8. Enjoy your weekend!

Let me start off by saying that I had taken a couple photos with my phone while I was on my walk. But cause I’m awesome, I had my finger over part of the lens in all of them. That’s what I get for trying to use my phone and not being able to see it very well cause of the sun. So long story short, there’s no photo for this post.

I had some drama with a friend today. It’s been brewing for awhile, and today it finally happened. I was frustrated and upset with her.

When I got home from work though I had two choices: do something constructive or eat too much of something that I shouldn’t be eating in the first place. Lucky for me, I made a good choice.

Even though it was really windy this afternoon, I decided to go for a walk. On the drive over there were leaves all over the place, and there were lots of branches in the road. When I say it was windy, I mean it was REALLY windy.

I enjoyed myself though, despite the fact that I was almost blown away. Even though I had my hair in a pony tail with bobby pins, it was still everywhere when I got back to the house.

While I was out there a funny thing happened. The more I walked, the better I felt. By the time I got back to the car 40 minutes later, I was actually feeling pretty good.

Lesson learned: workout (or go for a walk) when stressed instead of eating. I felt better without the guilt of eating something bad for me.

Bowmont September 23, 2010 029

For the last couple months now I’ve been walking every week with some friends. It’s been awesome being able to spend more time with them while getting in a workout at the same time

It started out with three of us, but the last little while one hasn’t been coming very often. But even when it’s just the two of us, we always make it a priority to get together.

It’s not always just us going, but most of the time there’s two dogs, and sometimes there’s even two kids. I usually volunteer to push the stroller cause doing that and wrangling two dogs can be a lot for one person to do all at once. It’s a double stroller so it’s definitely bigger than the regular ones. I’d like to think it gives me a little better workout – especially when I’m pushing it uphill.

My friends keep me motivated to make sure I get the walks in. It’s really easy for me to tell myself that I don’t have time for it, or I’ll do it tomorrow, but when I have it planned with them I make sure I go. They’re expecting me to be there so I show up.

We usually meet up at my friends house, ten minutes from where I live. She has two big parks near her, so it’s a great place to start from cause we can go to either one. It’s also a nice neighbourhood to walk in too, so sometimes we just end up staying in the residential area.

If you’re looking for some accountability with your workouts, I’d definitely try working out with someone.
