Flames Game February 11 2013 (1)

1. I went to a Flames game earlier in the week. We didn’t win, BUT the boyfriend managed to get us amazing seats, plus it was my first time seeing the Flames play in OT in person. All in all it was a pretty fun night.

2. The Flames then went on to have an amazing night on Wednesday against Dallas. They ended up winning 7 – 4 over Dallas, and Cammalleri even got a hat trick. Woohoo!

3. The other night I had a dream I was Harry Potter. I was fighting Lord Voldemort. With a roll of tape. Weird and random, but I think it was one of the best dreams I’ve ever had.

4. I didn’t do anything for Valentine’s Day yesterday. Whether you’re in a relationship or not, it seems like a lot of pressure and high expectations either way. I’d much rather do something nice for my boyfriend cause I want to, not cause I have to.

Valentine's Day Candy February 14 2013

5. I did however got a box of chocolates from my brother. He’s pretty awesome.

6. I got asked for my number on Monday. I would never be able to do that – I’m so bad at making small talk and I doubt I would have the guts to risk getting shot down. Have you ever asked someone for their number?

7. That’s all I have this morning. Enjoy your weekend!

Date night on Friday involved dinner and a movie.

My fortune from lunch on Saturday. Perfect cause I love to travel.

The boyfriend managed to get Flames tickets last week for tonight’s game. I’m beyond excited. These are the best seats I’ve ever had – usually I have to walk up (and up and up and up) to get to the ones I can afford.

Chinatown February 10 2013 (1)

Chinese New Year at the Chinese Cultural Centre.

Chinatown February 10 2013 (2)

There were tons of people there, but it was definitely fun to check out.

Mucho Burrito January 25 2013

Friday I went to Mucho Burrito for lunch. I decided to get a chicken burrito – usually I get quesadillas when I’m there. I’m glad I decided to get something different, cause the burrito was delicious!

Friday night the boyfriend and I went out for sushi at Sho for date night. The gyoza were especially tasty. Afterwards we ended up watching The Recruit with Al Pacino.

Me in Flames Jersey January 26 2013

Saturday night I was invited to the Flames/Oilers game with a friend’s dad. Of course I had to wear my jersey to the Saddledome.

Flames Oilers Game January 26 2013 (2)

The game was being broadcast on Hockey Night in Canada, so Don Cherry was at the game, in one of his signature colourful suits. Apparently HNIC has been on TV for 60 years. I had no idea it was that old.

Flames Oilers Game January 26 2013 (3)

There’s a huge rivalry between the Flames and the Oilers, so I knew it was going to be a great game. The Flames won their first game of the season (finally), 4 – 3 over Edmonton.

Bag of Bones January 28 2012

Sunday morning the boyfriend and I went out for brunch. I got pancakes (very tasty but really filling). I spent the rest of the day cleaning and reading. I got pulled in for the second half of this book, and I’m just a hundred pages from the end. I can’t wait to find out what happens to all the characters.

What did you do this weekend?

1. Last night I got an awesome text. I got invited to the Flames/Oilers game tomorrow night. Whenever we play the Oilers it’s always an extra intense game cause the rivalry is so big. I’m pretty excited.

2. I have also going to see the Flames play the Avalanche on Thursday. That’s right, two games in under a week. I’m one pretty happy person right now.

Broken Dresser January 25 2013

3. This week my dresser fell apart. The middle shelf literally fell out in my hands. It had been having problems for awhile – I couldn’t open the bottom drawer unless I was very careful – so I guess I can’t complain. I knew it was coming.

Putting Together New Dresser January 25 2013

4. I ended up at Ikea to look for another one – which I found for a pretty decent price. Wednesday night I bribed my brother to help me put it together. He thought I was weird for wanting to count all the little pieces to make sure we had them all before we started. Really though, what’s the point of building half of it if there’s pieces missing?

Running Room Magazine January 25 2013

5. I got some weekend reading in the mail the other day.

6. The boyfriend and I are going for sushi for date night tonight. I’ve been craving it for the last little while, so I’m looking forward to it.

7. Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend?

Seeds January 18 2013

1. I’m already thinking of spring. I’m going to be ordering some seeds sooner rather than later. Thinking of planting the garden makes this cold and snow seem a little more tolerable.

2. Dinner + friends + their kids = lots of fun. There were meatballs, dancing, and tasty cookies involved too.

3. I’m getting a haircut this morning. I’ve been putting it off for too long, and finally my hair started driving me crazy so I made an appointment. There’s something about getting your hair cut that makes me feel new and improved, even if I just get a trim.

4. I’m in a reading rut. I’m trying to read a good book, but I keep getting bored after 10 or 15 minutes. It’s not the book, it’s me.

5. I bought goat cheese a couple days ago. It’s almost gone already. It’s sooooo good!

6. I’m the proud owner of Flames tickets. I’m so excited that hockey is back, even if it’s going to be a super short season.

7. That’s it, have a great weekend.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s amazed when the weekend is suddenly over. Seriously, where did it go?

Weekend in Review (1)

I had bought a Groupon earlier in the week for Far Burger. My dad loves that place, so we went together on Friday for lunch. I’d never been there before so it was a new experience for me.

Weekend in Review (2)

I decided on a veggie burger (my first veggie burger ever!), which I really liked. I’d get it again in a heartbeat. It was pretty big though. I only ate a 1/3 of my fries – it was just too much food.

Weekend in Review (3)

After lunch I ended up doing a little shopping. On the way to the store I wanted to go in we walked past a sports store. They had these big metal things outside on the sidewalk. I had to have my picture taken as a goalie. It’s probably the closest I’ll ever get to playing.

Friday night I went to a barbeque at my boyfriend’s friend’s place. There were hamburgers, beer, and roasted marshmallows. Does it get any better than that?

Saturday morning  I went for a walk with a friend. We ended up going 5k in a little over an hour, which is pretty good considering we had two dogs and a little one in a stroller.

Saturday afternoon I spent looking for a bike. I’ve narrowed it down to 2 or 3, and hopefully I’ll buy one this week. I’m pretty excited about getting a new bike.

Saturday night was a girl’s night. We went to go see Paranorman (I really liked it), and then went for drinks afterwards. The pub was right by the movie theatre. We got an amazing platter with wings, seafood, and potstickers. So tasty! By the time we left I think it was later than we all thought it would be. Apparently we’re pretty good at talking.

Pocky September 17 2012

Sunday for lunch I went to a sushi restaurant with the boyfriend. While I’ve had sushi before, this was my first time eating at an actual sushi restaurant. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous about it, but he assured me there were lots of options if I didn’t want fish.

I ended up really liking it for the most part. The California rolls were amazing, along with a veggie roll I got. I tried the boyfriend’s spicy tuna rolls, but wasn’t a huge fan of it. The gyoza’s were great too. All in all I’d definitely go back. They brought us a box of Pocky at the end of the meal, which I have yet to try. They look pretty tasty and full of sugar, so I’m sure I’ll like them.

After all that food at lunch, I played floor hockey Sunday afternoon. Somehow I managed to avoid throwing up, which was good. I put in 110%, and almost had one or two goals. It was lots of fun,

Unfortunately I was pretty exhausted when I got home, even though I had a yoga class Sunday night, I definitely shouldn’t have played as hard or as long at hockey, cause the yoga class was really tough.

So that was my weekend. What did you do?

1. Work seemed extra long and hard this week. I’m very glad the weekend is here.

2. I’m going to a barbecue tonight. It should be fun.

3. Saturday I’m going to a girl’s night with a couple friends. We’re going to see a movie (possibly Paranorman, which I’m kind of excited about), and then going for drinks afterwards. It should also be fun.

4. I’m playing floor hockey again on Sunday. I don’t know what it is, but I get so excited when I know it’s just a day or two away. It must be the same thing that made playing floor hockey in phys ed one of the best classes all year. Apparently I don’t change.

5. Soccer is officially over. I’m amazingly sad about that. What am I going to do with my Tuesday nights now?

6. I made cinnamon buns this week. Quite possibly one of the best smelling things I’ve ever baked.

7. It’s cold in the mornings when I leave for work now. This week we had a frost warning. I’m not ready for cold weather yet. Brrr.

8. Enjoy your weekend!

Floor Hockey September 9 2012

This afternoon I’ll be playing my first floor hockey game since I had to give up my spot on a team because of an injury. While it’s not with the same league, (it’s with my friend who I played with back in the spring), I’m hoping today goes better.

And it should be better. I’ve been trying to be really careful with my foot activity wise, not doing too much. I’ve been doing all my stretches and physio homework too. Because there’s not as much stress put on the guy/girl ratio at these games, I don’t have to play the entire time, I can take breaks if I need to, and even leave early if it comes down to that.

I really enjoy my time playing floor hockey. I really want to play – even if that means taking it slow at first. At the same time though I don’t want to make things any worse with my foot. It’s tough figuring out how much is enough, and how much is too much.

Whenever I play floor hockey it’s always a great workout. I’m exhausted by the end of the game and I leave drenched in sweat. It’s not pretty, but I have so much fun.

I can’t wait until this afternoon!

Disappointment July 31 2012

Two weeks ago I posted about how much I was looking forward to playing floor hockey. Unfortunately all I got to play was one game.

Apparently I underestimated how much harder gym floors were than grass soccer fields. Let me tell you, they’re really hard. Evidently, they’re too hard for my foot that’s still recovering from plantar fasciitis. My foot hurt a little that night, but not a whole lot more than after a soccer game. The next morning however was a different story. I could hardly walk when I first got out of bed.

So I made the tough decision to not play the rest of the season. I hate that I had to give it up, but I want my foot to heal completely, not get worse.

This is the second thing that I was really looking forward to doing that I’ve had to cancel. Because I couldn’t run I ended up giving my spot in the Mud Hero race to a friend. I was pretty bummed out about that, and now I’m doubly bummed out cause the next month won’t involve any floor hockey like I thought it would.

I’m very ready for my body to be back to normal. I want to be able to do the things that I want to do. I guess one good thing that’s come out of this is that I’ll appreciate the way my body works once it’s completely healed.

Floor Hockey

My first floor hockey game is tonight. I’m pretty excited about it. I had played a few games a couple months ago, so I’m really looking forward to playing again.

Our schedule was posted a couple days ago, so I found out our team name. We’re the Gladiators! Since no one on the team knows each other, I’m pretty sure that our name was assigned to us. I like it though. Some of the other team names on the schedule are pretty funny.

Even though I’m really excited about it, I’m also kind of nervous. What if I’m not good enough? What if I let my teammates down? I know part of it is the unknown. I haven’t met any of my teammates, I haven’t played organized floor hockey before. The nerves are about not knowing what’s going to happen.

On the other hand though, it’s a rec league. It doesn’t really matter if we lose or if I miss the shot. It’s not competitive so it shouldn’t be too intense. I know I was pretty nervous about playing soccer before the first game too, but it turned out to be pretty awesome. I need to remember that I’ll have fun and not stress about it before it happens.

Wish me luck tonight!
