1. We’ve gotten way too much snow in the last week. Like 30+ cm of the stuff. I’m sooooo ready for spring!

2. It’s Friday! is it just me or has this week seemed really long to anyone else?

3. Last week I mentioned something about Footloose to the boyfriend. He laughed and said it had been a long time since he’d seen it. Little does he know I own it, and it might make an appearance during tonight’s date. How can you not love Kevin Bacon dancing out his teenaged angst in a warehouse?

4. I only have another month and a half until I start playing soccer again. I CAN’T WAIT!

5. I’ve been having some really strange dreams lately – everything from aliens on baseball diamonds to racing through cruise ships to save people. What’s going on in my head when I’m asleep?

6. I’ve been listening to an awesome podcast this week at work. I think I’ll be a little sad when I finish the last one.

7. I think I’ve now become an expert at playing tea party. I have a very good teacher in a friend’s three year old daughter.

8. Are you doing anything exciting this weekend? Tell me about it.

1. It’s absolutely beautiful outside right now. In fact, it’s so nice I even have the window cracked for a little fresh air. It’s supposed to stay nice for the next little while too.

Rainbow Valley

2. I’m reading the second last book in the Anne of Green Gables series. I’m kind of sad that it’ll be over soon. It feels like Harry Potter all over again.

3. Tonight is date night with the boyfriend. I jokingly suggested a 3 course, romantic, candle lit dinner. He in turn suggested McDonald’s. Hopefully he was joking too.

New Dresser January 2013 (4)

4. I’m thinking my new dresser is looking pretty nice. Know how when you get a new piece of furniture it looks weird at first until you get used to it? Well it’s finally looking like it belongs in my room now.

5. I’m officially registered for soccer. I CAN’T WAIT TIL APRIL! A couple people on my team have already been emailing each other. I can’t wait to see them.

6. Watching soccer on TV doesn’t make you feel any less impatient for soccer. In fact, it makes it worse. Thanks a lot Newcastle and Chelsea.

This afternoon I got an email about registering for soccer. As soon as I saw who it was from, I knew it was soccer related.

Registration starts tomorrow for people who played last year. I can’t wait until I’m officially signed up. That means in just a couple more months I’ll be back on the field running around like a crazy person, pretending to know what I’m doing. I can’t wait!

Since soccer season is just around the corner, that means I need to start stepping up my workouts. It would be nice to actually feel good during my first game, and not like I want to die after the first half.

Are there any soccer players out there willing to share their off season workouts?

I meant to publish this post on Wednesday, but apparently I didn’t, and I was too busy celebrating to realize it. So here it is, a couple days late. Enjoy!

Birthday November 14 2012

I turn 30 today. I’ve been around for 3 decades. That’s kind of terrifying in so many ways. I never really thought I’d make it to adulthood, and it seems that I’ve arrived. Weird.

The last year has been pretty crazy.

A year ago, November 2011 I started dating my ex. He was the first guy I actually let in to know the real me. It was definitely terrifying at first, but totally worth it. I still think he’s a pretty awesome guy. He’s going to make someone very happy, and she’ll be very lucky to have him.

Yoga Mat Birthday November 14 2012

In January I took my very first yoga class. I was absolutely terrified, but I did it anyways, and ended up really liking it.

In March a family member got really sick, very fast. Almost dying sick, and we found out they had cancer. The month that they were in the hospital was crazy stressful, but at the same time, when they were allowed to come back home, it was such a relief. It makes you appreciate every day that you have with the people that you love.

Soccer Cropped Tourney June 2012

In April I started playing soccer. It was the first time I’d ever played. I was absolutely terrified, but in the end, I’m so glad I started. I had so much fun, and met some really amazing people.

In July I started dating my boyfriend. He’s kind of awesome if I do say so myself. We’ve only been together for four months, but at the same time it feels like we’ve spent so much time together already. I’m pretty glad I met him.

Stuff 009

In July we had to put down our dog, Bailey. I know I’ve mentioned him on the blog a couple times, and seriously, we loved him like crazy, even if he did cause trouble once in awhile a lot. The whole family was able to say goodbye – I was able to leave work early and my brother went into work late. It was so hard. Really hard, but we were able to spend an amazing 15 years with him that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Blind Bay Vacation August 2012 (1)

I went on vacation in August for the first time in years. I spent mornings on the dock by myself, and the rest of the days with some of my favourite people. Possibly the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever been on.

It’s been a pretty crazy year. There’s been some fun stuff and some losses, successes and failures. I guess you never know what’s going to happen.

Running Room Magazine

Every couple of months I get a magazine from my local running store. I usually always read it and enjoy it. But for some reason the last one I got made me sad.

I haven’t run since May. May! That seems like a really long time. I guess it is a long time – four months. I stopped cause my plantar fasciitis came back. I haven’t started again cause it’s still in my one foot, though it’s definitely better than it was.

I thought for sure I’d be feeling better by now, but I’m not. I wasn’t every consistent or good at running, but I definitely liked doing it. It made me feel strong and capable every time I’d finish a run that I didn’t think I’d be able to do.

There’s always a silver lining though. Since I’ve stopped running I’ve played soccer (which I’ve really really liked), started yoga again, and bought a bike. I probably wouldn’t have done any of those things if I was still running.

I know I’ll get back to running at some point once my foot is back to being 100%. I shouldn’t be all that sad about it cause some really good things have come out of being injured. I guess it all depends on how you look at it.

Friday August 10 2012

Is it just me or is anyone else very grateful that it’s Friday? I have two work free days ahead of me that I’m really looking forward to. I think it’s when I have a long week at work that I most enjoy the weekends.

I have a date tonight, but other than that I have absolutely nothing else planned for the weekend. It’s going to be nice not to have my weekend full of things I have to do. I’ll actually get a break!

After work this afternoon I stopped by Old Navy cause their jeans were on sale. Of course once I was in there and looking around, I ended up getting a couple other things too, but when you’re at Old Navy it can’t be too bad for the budget, right?

If you haven’t seen it yet, you should check out today’s Google Doodle. Take it from someone who’s played as keeper, it’s a lot easier to play online than in real life!

Speaking of soccer, yesterday Canada played France for the bronze medal in women’s soccer. It was on really early in the morning here, and I knew if I turned it on, I wouldn’t want to turn it off when it was time to leave for work. So instead I kept checking the score online. Right before I had to leave, I checked one more time, only to find out what Canada had won! I was pretty excited to say the least. Those ladies definitely deserved it and worked hard. This is the first team medal Canada has won in 74 years. Hopefully it won’t take another 74 years to win another one!

Enjoy your weekend.

I can’t be the only one that’s enjoying the fact that there’s so many long weekends during the summer. Not having to go into work on Monday makes such a difference even though it’s only one day!

Zucchini August 7 2012

Friday I found this zucchini in my garden. I could have sworn that only a couple days ago it was half the size. It must be the hot weather we’ve been having lately.

Zucchhini August 7 2012

I cut it off and had to think for a day or two about how I was going to eat it. Being that it was my first one from my garden, I had to make sure I had just the right thing to put it in.

Goat Cheese Pizza August 7 2012

Saturday I ended up having goat cheese pizza. Yeah, it was just as amazing as it sounds. So delicious!

Pasta Salad August 7 2012

Sunday morning I decided on putting the zucchini in a pasta salad. I made this salad once before and it was pretty good, so I figured it was worthy of my zucchini. It didn’t disappoint.

Trail Mix Augst 7 2012

I’ve been watching a lot of Olympic soccer. I spent Monday afternoon watching the Canada – US women’s game while eating Olympic mix. Yeah, I’m cool like that. It was a crazy intense game, non-stop action. If you didn’t watch it you missed out on two hours of amazing soccer. The outcome (and reffing) of the game is a whole other post though, so I’ll end by saying that both teams played their hearts out and it was a lot of fun to watch.

Pride and Prejudice August 7 2012

I also spent a good chunk of time this weekend reading one of my favourite books – Pride and Prejudice. This has to be one of the most popular books ever. It always makes me think of Colin Firth as Mr Darcy. If you haven’t seen that movie you need to see it soon!

Did you do anything exciting with your extra day off?

Soccer Team July 2 2012

Last week was our last official soccer game. I’m pretty sad about it. I’m really going to miss my purple teammates. It’s amazing how fast two and a half months go by. Especially when you consider I had no idea how to play soccer when I started in April. I’m still not very good, but at least now I know the rules, positions, and what I’m doing when I’m on the field.

I figured since it was our last game I would give it everything I had. Even when I was exhausted close to the end of the game, I ran to be where I needed to be. I wanted to make sure I put in 100%.

It ended up paying off, cause I was in the perfect spot to take a shot on goal – and it went in! I scored my very first point! I was pretty excited about it. At first I thought it bounced off a teammate, but when I talked to her after, she said it just brushed past her jersey and didn’t actually deflect off her.

We had our wind-up party on Tuesday. Because the game was cancelled before because of the rain, everyone came in their regular street clothes and makeup. It was great to see everyone out of their jerseys and ponytails. There was lots of food, drinks, and talking. It was definitely a great way to end the season. The league doesn’t keep score or track standings, so there weren’t any awards or trophies. It was just a night to spend time together.

Lucky for me, soccer isn’t over with completely. Once a week during the summer we’ll have drop-in games for whoever is interested. It’s free (yay!), but won’t be refereed. We’re a pretty easy going bunch, so I don’t think that’ll be a problem at all.

I’m so glad I decided to sign up. It’s been awesome playing with everyone – from university level players to people completely new to soccer like me. I think I’ve learned something from just about everyone.

Euro 2012 Logo June 19 2012

It’s a sad day. Italy, the team I was rooting for to win Euro 2012 lost this afternoon to Spain.

I ended up watching the game at a pub with a friend. She’s not into soccer at all, but agreed to go to lunch with me somewhere where we could watch the game.

Unfortunately the pub didn’t have the sound on for the game, so I wasn’t able to hear any of the calls or what the commentators were saying, but it didn’t really look like Italy deserved to win today. Spain was simply the better team.

Seeing the Italian team on the field after the game ended was heartbreaking. You could see the sadness and disappointment in their faces. I can’t even imagine the kind of pressure both teams were under.

Even though my team lost, it was great to be able to spend time with my friend talking. I can’t remember the last time the two of us hung out one on one.

For lunch I ended up getting a veggie burger. Usually it wouldn’t be something that I would order, but it came with guacamole and hummus on it – two of my favourite things. As soon as I saw that, I knew I was going to order it. Between the soccer game and talking I totally forgot to take a picture of it. Whoops.

Fireworks June 29 2012

1. I have two really good books to read this weekend. I know I won’t get both of them read cause one’s a 750 page non-fiction, but I’ll have lots of fun reading.

2. It’s a long weekend! Three days away from work. I’m going to enjoy every minute of it. I really do like my job – it’s actually pretty awesome – but sometimes I just need time away. Know what I mean?

3. Being that it’s a long weekend, that automatically means that there’s going to be rain. The good part though is that there shouldn’t be too much of it. We’ve had a ton of rain the last little while, so it’ll be nice to have some sunshine to enjoy.

4. I only have a couple things planned for the next couple days. You have no idea how happy that makes me. That means I can actually RELAX. Socking idea, huh?

5. The final game in the Euro 2012 is being played on Sunday. I’m so excited! Even though both Germany and England were eliminated, Italy, the other team I was rooting for made it to the finals. They’ll be playing Spain.

6. We got some goodies from the Italian grocery store. You know it’s going to be a good weekend when it involves Orangina and pizzelles. If you don’t know what either of those things are, you’re really missing out.

7. The  garden is growing! There’s lots of flowers on the zucchini plants. The lettuce and radishes are starting to come up. As long as there’s no catastrophic weather (big hail or tons of rain), I think it’s going to be a good harvest.

8. Sunday is Canada Day! I don’t think I’m doing anything to celebrate this year. There used to be fireworks every year at Canada Olympic Park (where the ‘88 winter Olympics were held), but they’ve since moved them, which is kind of sad cause we used to have an amazing view of them from my parent’s bathroom.

9. That’s all the facts I have for today. I hope you enjoy your weekend!
