Archives for category: Winter

1. We’ve gotten way too much snow in the last week. Like 30+ cm of the stuff. I’m sooooo ready for spring!

2. It’s Friday! is it just me or has this week seemed really long to anyone else?

3. Last week I mentioned something about Footloose to the boyfriend. He laughed and said it had been a long time since he’d seen it. Little does he know I own it, and it might make an appearance during tonight’s date. How can you not love Kevin Bacon dancing out his teenaged angst in a warehouse?

4. I only have another month and a half until I start playing soccer again. I CAN’T WAIT!

5. I’ve been having some really strange dreams lately – everything from aliens on baseball diamonds to racing through cruise ships to save people. What’s going on in my head when I’m asleep?

6. I’ve been listening to an awesome podcast this week at work. I think I’ll be a little sad when I finish the last one.

7. I think I’ve now become an expert at playing tea party. I have a very good teacher in a friend’s three year old daughter.

8. Are you doing anything exciting this weekend? Tell me about it.

Besides laundry and shovelling this weekend, I really only did anything interesting on Saturday night.

Lucky Buddha Beer

For date night we ended up at a Chinese buffet. The boyfriend saw a special for Lucky Buddha Beer, so he thought he’d try it. He said it tasted like Kokanee. Who would have thought that those two brands would be similar?

Sunday I spent a good hour shovelling most of the driveway. I couldn’t finish cause I was so tired. There was so much snow, and cause of the wind it kept getting blown around.

I was supposed to go see Jack the Giant Slayer Sunday afternoon, but I ended up cancelling. After doing the driveway I realized how bad the conditions were. Oh well, maybe next weekend.

I hope your weekend was less snowy than mine. What’s the last kind of beer you drank?

Confederation Park February 4 2013 (2)

Earlier in the week I took advantage of the beautiful weather we’re having and went for a walk in Confederation Park. I rediscovered this park a couple years ago, and now I like to walk here every couple of months.

Because of the water in the park, there’s ducks! They’re not very scared of people (they’re fed a lot), so sometimes they’ll get pretty close. Today they weren’t very interested in me.

There’s not much open water left right now, but it must be enough for them. It’s pretty fun to see the babies in the summer – they’re so cute!

Confederation Park February 4 2013 (5)

One day I’m going to figure out what that thing is. I’ve never seen a sign explaining what it is. Anyone know or have any suggestions?

Shouldice Park February 3 2013 (3)

1. The weather has been beautiful lately. However, the chinook headaches haven’t been so much fun. There has to be some sort of middle ground between half decent weather and no headaches.

2. I got to hang out with a friend yesterday. She’s working now, so while we don’t get to hang out as much, we definitely make the best of the time that we do have together.

3. I made granola this week. It’s felt like forever since I last made it. I forgot how good it is compared to the store bought stuff.

4. I’m finally reading the last book in the Little Women series. I’ve been putting it off cause I don’t want it to be over.

5. The last of the seeds that I ordered online arrived yesterday. I can’t wait until it’s time to start them inside.

6. Last week the boyfriend and I talked about going to Chinatown for a date. Since Sunday is the Chinese New Year, we’ve decided that’s the day we’re going to do it.

Shouldice Park February 3 2013 (1)

This morning my dad and I went to Shouldice Park for a walk along the river. The last time I was there was a couple summers ago for a friend’s baseball game, so it had definitely been awhile.

Shouldice Park February 3 2013 (3)

This morning was nearly perfect walking weather. There wasn’t any wind, the sun was out, and the path was mostly snow and ice free. The only down side was that there were quite a few other people out taking advantage of the nice weather, so it was pretty busy.

Shouldice Park February 3 2013 (4)

The river was really pretty even though it looked amazingly cold. We ended up walking a little over 2 miles in just over 35 minutes.

Have you been on any pretty walks lately?

White Chocolate Smartie Brittle

1. My brother brought me back white chocolate Smartie bark from Banff. Does a more delicious thing exist on earth? It’s now gone. Every bite was amazing.

2. My workouts the last two days have been shovelling the driveway. We got a pretty good dump of snow, and I’m hoping it’s over now. I’m definitely feeling it in my arms.

3. I’ve stayed up late the last two nights, and I’m definitely feeling it today. Lack of sleep didn’t use to effect me like this. I feel old.

4. Last night I saw This Is 40 with a friend (the reason why I was up late last night). It’s so funny. If you’re thinking of seeing it, go! After the movie we went to get a beer. I got blueberry beer. It was pretty good.

Pride and Prejudice DVD January 11 2013

5. I got Pride and Prejudice from a friend for Christmas! I haven’t watched it yet, so I’m planning in spending my Friday night with Mr Darcy.

6. It’s short and sweet today. Enjoy your weekend!

Snowy Trees November 22 2012 (1)

We got a lot of snow yesterday. So much, that there was a heavy snowfall warning issued. Luckily the snow is done falling. Despite the shovelling and slippery roads, it did make things look pretty beautiful.

Snowy Trees November 22 2012 (3)

The trees in the backyard looked so pretty with the sun coming up behind them. Views like this make getting up early worth it.

Mandarin Oranges November 22 2012

Have I mentioned that I’m currently obsessed with mandarin oranges? I can’t get enough of them. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve been eating a ton of them lately. I think it must be that I only ever eat them at Christmas. I’ll eat regular sized oranges year round, but there’s something about the little ones that make them so much better!

What’s your current favourite food that you can’t get enough of?

Instagram Tim Horton's Hot Chocolate October 15 2012

I don’t drink coffee. I don’t drink tea very often – usually only when I’m at a Vietnamese or Chinese restaurant. My go to hot beverage is definitely hot chocolate.

My favourite place to get a hot chocolate is Tim Horton’s. I don’t know what they do, but it’s amazing. I have yet to find a hot chocolate that is as good anywhere else.

If I’m craving a white hot chocolate, I go to Second Cup. They always ask if I want whipped cream on it, and I always say no. Maybe it’s just me, but whenever I have whipped cream on a drink I get it all over my face. Maybe it’s just that I’m not coordinated enough to drink it, but I always make a mess.

What’s your favourite cold weather drink?

Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park September 28 2012 (12)

1. I didn’t have to go into work today, so my dad and I went on a bike ride this morning. It was my first time going to the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. It was beautiful!

2. There’s snow in the forecast for next week. I’m not impressed in the least.

3. I was carrying entirely too much change around in my wallet. I decided to put it in rolls this afternoon, so I found out exactly how much is too much. No wonder my bag weighed a ton.

4. I’m going for a walk with a friend tomorrow morning. I can’t wait to have some time to hang out. There’s a secret that I have to keep from her for the next couple weeks though (it’s a good secret, don’t worry), but I’m scared it’s going to slip out before I have a chance to stop myself. I’m so bad at lying.

Cranberry Orange Scone September 28 2012

5. I’ve eaten two cranberry orange scones the last few days that my dad bought at the farmer’s market. They’re beyond delicious. I’m surprised I haven’t eaten every single one.

6. I haven’t baked anything in a week or two. I need to make sure I make something tasty this weekend.

7. I’ve bought some really good books lately that I really really really want to start, but I’m already in the middle of two (good) books. I need to read faster.

8. It’s date night tonight!

9. Enjoy your weekend.

The last two days we’ve gotten a ton of snow. That’s what it looked like when I left work this morning.

I’m tired of having to brush off the car and scrape the windows.

I’m ready to put my winter coat, scarf, and gloves in the closet til next year.

I want sunny days.

I’m tired of shoveling the driveway.

I’m ready for spring!

I want to see flowers and green grass and buds on the trees.

I miss hearing the birds singing.

I’m ready for longer days.
