Yoga March 31 2013

My first workout this week was yoga. Since I’m finding it hard to get my weekly yoga session in, I thought I’d do it right off the bat so I wouldn’t have any excuses.

30 Day Shred DVD March 31 2013

Wednesday morning I decided on doing level 1 of the 30 Day Shred. I realized that even though sometimes I feel frustrated at not being “strong enough”, I’m definitely stronger than I was a couple months ago. I’m getting stronger, even if it sometimes feel like I’m not.

Bowmont March 31 2013

After work Wednesday afternoon I had a walking date with a friend. We tried going in a different direction, and I’m glad we did. We found a new 45 minute loop. Even better, there’s an off leash dog park along it, so the dogs will definitely enjoy that next time.

Walk March 31 2013

Saturday afternoon I went for another walk. We’ve had pretty nice weather lately and I’ve really been trying to take advantage of it after the cold snowy winter we’ve had.

I’m feeling pretty good about my workouts over the last week. I’ve been really trying hard to focus on on what I’m doing during my workouts instead of allowing my mind to wander.

30 Day Shred DVD

Monday I did my 30 Day Shred DVD. My abs definitely felt sore the next day.

Tae Bo Flex DVD

Wednesday I did a Tae Bo DVD that I bought when I was still in university. I haven’t done it in awhile, so I thought it would be a nice change. I forgot how much Billy Blanks really gets into the workout – it’s kind of cool.

Yoga March 23 2013

Thursday I was feeling like yoga, so that’s exactly what I did. I held the poses for longer than I usually would, so it felt good to slow down and really get a feel for each pose. Please tell me I’m not the only one who has one leg/arm/hip that’s occasionally tighter than the other one.

One on One Training with Jackie DVD March 23 2013

Yesterday when my alarm went off I wasn’t feeling motivated to workout at all. All I wanted to do was roll over and go back to sleep. I managed to get myself moving and out of bed though. I ended up doing the lower body workout from One on One Training with Jackie. I’m definitely feeling it today, with all the squats and lunges I did.

What was your favourite workout this week?

One on One Training with Jackie DVD

Monday’s workout was the 20 minute upper body section from Training with Jackie. I’m always surprised at how exhausted I am after doing it. It might only be 20 minutes, but I’m working HARD during that time.

Power Yoga DVD

Wednesday I decided on yoga. While this definitely isn’t my favourite workout, it was still good. I’m really trying to spend more time stretching. I always forget how good I feel after yoga.

Walk March 9 2013

This morning I had a walking date with a friend. We did a 50 minute loop from her place, to the river, and back. It was absolutely beautiful outside today. The sun was out and it was warm. I actually ended up having to take my gloves off on the way back cause I was getting too hot.

What was your favourite workout of the last week?

March Goals March 5 2013

I did awesome at accomplishing my goals in February. I wanted to be more consistent with my workouts and be in bed before 10 most nights. Both of which I did. Woohoo! Here’s what I want to do this month.

Practice yoga at least once a week. Since my last yoga class in December I’ve noticed how tight my left hip and shoulders get. Sure I’ve done a couple yoga workouts on my own since then, but nothing consistent. I think if I start doing yoga again once a week it’ll help with the tightness.

Journal 3 times a week. I used to journal daily, It was awesome. There’s something about being able to get my thoughts on paper that makes me less stressed and anxious. I want to get back into that routine.

What do you want to accomplish in March?

30 Day Shred DVD

Monday morning started with a 30 Day Shred workout. Up until the night before I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I eventually decided on the 30 Day Shred. I figured if I couldn’t decide on one body part, I might as well do a little bit of everything.

One on One Training with Jackie DVD

Wednesday morning’s workout was tough – my shoulders were definitely feeling it. I did the 20 minute upper body workout from One on One Training with Jackie. It was a combination of strength training and cardio. Even though it was relatively short, I was definitely tired by the end of the 20 minutes.

Apparently Jackie Warner is some sort of celebrity trainer. Maybe it’s cause I’m from Canada, but I’ve never heard of her before. I ended up getting her DVD because I heard a few good reviews of it.

Friday’s workout was yoga. One of my hips had been feeling pretty tight the day before, so I thought I’d try to stretch it out a bit. It definitely helped. I was a little nervous cause it was my first time doing yoga on my own without a class or a DVD. It was actually pretty nice to be able to do whatever I wanted.

What was your favourite workout last week?

1. It’s Friday! For some reason this week seemed really long. I have no idea why.

2. I have a very social couple of days coming up. I don’t know how it happened, but usually I’m not a social butterfly. Weird.

3. Last night I saw Identity Thief with some friends. It’s sooooo funny. I’d definitely recommend it if you liked Bridesmaids or Horrible Bosses. I haven’t laughed that much in a long time.

4. After the movie we went for dinner and drinks. I had the most delicious Thai chicken salad ever. Yum.

Calgary Z00 February 2013 (62)

5. Yesterday I went to the zoo. I saw penguins, tigers, elephants, lions, and giraffes. I managed to get a few amazing photos.

6. My hip has decided to get really tight this week. I’m not impressed. I thought doing yoga this morning would stretch it out a bit. I think it helped.

7. I’m going bowling tomorrow night. I last time i went bowling I did horribly. I don’t think my score even broke three digits. Here’s hoping I’ll do better tomorrow.

8. Enjoy your weekend!

Power Yoga DVD

Yesterday morning I ended up deciding on some yoga. It had been a couple weeks since I’d last done it, and boy could I feel it. My legs and shoulders were really tight.

I hadn’t used this DVD for a long time. Like years. I don’t think it’s seen the light of day since I moved after graduating university. It was still a great workout even if it’s almost 10 years old already.

Yoga DVD

Because it was power (or ashtanga) yoga, it felt pretty different from the class I had been taking for the last few months. I was used to holding poses and taking things at a slower pace while really stretching and getting into the poses, while with the DVD I was in almost constant motion, moving from one post to the next. It was definitely more of a workout than a relaxing thing for me, which is what I was looking for.

What’s your favourite kind of yoga?

I meant to publish this post on Wednesday, but apparently I didn’t, and I was too busy celebrating to realize it. So here it is, a couple days late. Enjoy!

Birthday November 14 2012

I turn 30 today. I’ve been around for 3 decades. That’s kind of terrifying in so many ways. I never really thought I’d make it to adulthood, and it seems that I’ve arrived. Weird.

The last year has been pretty crazy.

A year ago, November 2011 I started dating my ex. He was the first guy I actually let in to know the real me. It was definitely terrifying at first, but totally worth it. I still think he’s a pretty awesome guy. He’s going to make someone very happy, and she’ll be very lucky to have him.

Yoga Mat Birthday November 14 2012

In January I took my very first yoga class. I was absolutely terrified, but I did it anyways, and ended up really liking it.

In March a family member got really sick, very fast. Almost dying sick, and we found out they had cancer. The month that they were in the hospital was crazy stressful, but at the same time, when they were allowed to come back home, it was such a relief. It makes you appreciate every day that you have with the people that you love.

Soccer Cropped Tourney June 2012

In April I started playing soccer. It was the first time I’d ever played. I was absolutely terrified, but in the end, I’m so glad I started. I had so much fun, and met some really amazing people.

In July I started dating my boyfriend. He’s kind of awesome if I do say so myself. We’ve only been together for four months, but at the same time it feels like we’ve spent so much time together already. I’m pretty glad I met him.

Stuff 009

In July we had to put down our dog, Bailey. I know I’ve mentioned him on the blog a couple times, and seriously, we loved him like crazy, even if he did cause trouble once in awhile a lot. The whole family was able to say goodbye – I was able to leave work early and my brother went into work late. It was so hard. Really hard, but we were able to spend an amazing 15 years with him that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Blind Bay Vacation August 2012 (1)

I went on vacation in August for the first time in years. I spent mornings on the dock by myself, and the rest of the days with some of my favourite people. Possibly the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever been on.

It’s been a pretty crazy year. There’s been some fun stuff and some losses, successes and failures. I guess you never know what’s going to happen.

I know I say this every Monday, but where did my weekend go?

Friday night was a date night with the boyfriend. We went to our favourite Chinese buffet place for dinner, then it was back to his place to watch a scary movie. I bought a couple DVD’s over to pick from, and we decided on The Amityville Horror. Haha, I now know not to watch scary movies with him cause he likes to make fun of them too much.

The State of Africa

Saturday I spent doing laundry and reading. Exciting, huh? The good news is that I FINALLY finished a book I’d been reading since the summer. In my defense though, it was a non-fiction 700 page monster. If you’re looking for a book about the history of post-colonial Africa (I mean, who isn’t?), I’d definitely go with this one. Even though it was really good, it was still pretty big.

Sense and Sensability

I also finished reading Sense and Sensibility. I still like Pride and Prejudice better, though Sense and Sensibility was pretty good. I’ve already started my next book.

Sunday afternoon was spent at the movie theatre to see Cloud Atlas. I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but it was the boyfriend’s turn to pick a movie. I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. It took awhile for me to put things together because there were so many storylines, but the second half of the movie was pretty good.

I had free movie tickets so we ended up going to a theatre I’d never been to before. It was pretty fancy. When we got our tickets we got to reserve our seats. Then once we got inside the theatre and found our (leather) seats, I almost had a heart attack when I sat down. The seats reclined, but I didn’t know that when I sat down – I thought I was going flying.

After the movie we went to Sho, a sushi restaurant the boyfriend had been wanting to try. We both agreed that the gyoza was pretty awesome. My veggie roll was really good too – I loved the mango on top of it.

My yoga class was last night. It’s such a good way to end the weekend and get my head focused for the coming week. I’ve started to get a feel for the way the teacher plans her classes, so it’s kind of nice to know what’s in store for the hour and a half that I’m there. She changes it up a little every week, but I definitely know the poses that she likes to do every class.

What did you do exciting this weekend?

How does Monday morning always seems to sneak up on me so fast? Here’s what kept me busy over the weekend.

Friday the boyfriend and I went to see Sinister. I think Ethan Hawke is a great actor, plus I love scary movies, so I had mentioned wanting to see it. It wasn’t the scariest movie I’d ever seen, but there were definitely a couple parts that made me jump.

After the movie we went for dinner. The first restaurant we tried had a 30 minute wait, so we went over to Schank’s instead. We ended up deciding to split a chicken quesadilla and chicken fingers. The service wasn’t that great, but the food was tasty, and we didn’t have to wait half an hour to eat.

Saturday night I finally got to see Pride and Prejudice. It snowed earlier in the day, so I ended up wearing a different outfit than I had planned, but I still felt pretty cute in it.

The show was amazing! There were lots of funny parts, and the actor who played Mr. Collins was great. Of course my heart melted at the very end when Darcy and Elizabeth kissed. It makes me smile just thinking about it.

It made me realize how much I miss going to see live theatre. The same theatre is putting on a production of Anne of Green Gables in April. I might have to save up to go see that one next.

Sunday night I had my yoga class. I really wasn’t motivated to go, but I knew that once I got there I would be glad I went. Of course that’s what happened. I came home super relaxed – it felt so good.

Did you do anything exciting this weekend?
